qualified in 2002 and a lot of people at the time were saying this
was the start of the rise of China as a footballing power. 14 years
later they havent even come close to qualifying for another finals
and are struggling even to make the final stages of Asian qualifying
for 2018.
They
are still miles behind their Asian confederation rivals who in tern
are miles behind the top teams from Europe & S America. Even
given 20 years, their huge population and the new found wealth of
their clubs its still very difficult to see Chinas national team
anywhere near the top of the tree in world football.
